Final Project Statement

     I've really been enjoying the beautiful spring that we've been having, and it helped inspire the concept behind my final project. With the Pandemic, this spring feels like the most anticipated one of my life, and I don't think I've ever relished in the changing of the weather so much, especially with promising news of widespread vaccine rollouts. The premise behind the video is a character going out to buy a summer outfit, and shedding his bulky and protective winter clothes. This speaks both to the change in weather and collective mental relaxation that we're slowly starting to feel as more and more of us are vaccinated. The entire video is done using a handheld shot; this isn't a technique I had ever used, and helped give a more personal narrative feeling, as well as a sensation of constant motion in keeping with the dynamic climate that we're inhabiting. I chose the music, a beat made by a friend, because it has a relaxed and rhythmic vibe, but has a good amount of dynamic contour to help give some shape to the character's journey.
