Final Project- Basic Ideas
When it comes to media based on the idea of transformation I immediately think of art in many forms. Between painting, sculpting, filmmaking, and more, there is always a start to finish and a product to gaze upon in the end. I hope to take this idea and create a small film showing the creation of an art piece. I am leaning towards making a sculpture or structure made of natural materials like rocks and sticks (and more). Art has always meant a lot to me and I also have a very strong connection to nature, so I think combining these could be a fun way to show how some objects can be transformed into something else and convey their original meaning as well as create new meaning.
I am not positive on whether I will switch to a painting or a multi-medium piece, but I am planning to try what I stated above. I will, however, also test out some other methods at the same time so I have options to choose from. As for filming style, I would like to try and keep frames small and close up until the final piece is shown. This technique is similar to how I see some artists film their processes on youtube, and I really enjoy that style and think if done well it can add a lot to the intrigue of the piece and video. I am also not totally set on my audio ideas, but I will most likely do a mixture that is calming and will supplement my video and subject matter.
Excited to see and hear about everyone's projects!
As we discussed in class, there's a lot of potential with an idea like this. Take a look at my comments on Nastasia's post as well so I'm need being too redundant, but consider the overall form that your choosing to emulate, and the possible ways that it could be adapted or embellished in order to put your own personal spin on it. There's always the question when watching amateur how-to videos: how much of the production choices, framing, sound, and editing is about documenting the process; versus how much is about the person, the incidentality of the domestic spaces that the viewer gets to glimpse, or the potential narrative weight of voiceover. So much to play with!
