Abstraction
Based upon the samples of abstract video provided, I understand abstractions as anything with distortion added. Such as music, color, and different combinations of camera shots. What really stood out to me was the use of greenscreen. I like the ideas that you can key onto a color and add or remove it to fit what you desire. I also like the idea of stop motion for its use of images compiled, that can set up an odd sort of effect. I am also keen on different sounds being combined, to set a certain tone for the viewers/listeners.
This response needs a lot more detail. Find some specific examples from the screening that supports your arguments, were surprising or new to you, and which conflict or complicate your main argument. While "distortion" might be defined a few different ways, it is perhaps a common by-product of non-narrative video, however it is certainly not a prerequisite. While special effects and post-processing can certainly be an attribute of these artists' work, sequencing and juxtaposition play a large role as well. In many ways these pieces and processes tend to ask more of us as consumers in that it is more difficult to escape into the stories and narrative structures. These pieces confront us.
